Engine 89 Engine 89 is a 1996 International 4900 built by Central States Fire Apparatus, serves as the district's primary tender, and can carry a crew of three firefighters. This apparatus carries 2500 gallons of water, has a 1250 gpm pump and is powered by an International DT-466 engine with an Allison automatic transmission. Engine 89 is equipped with BLS (Basic Life Support) aid supplies, chain saw, generator, scene lighting, and a gas powered positive pressure ventilation fan. Specialized equipment on Engine 89 includes a floto pump and a 2500 gallon portable dump tank. The dump tank is similar to a large above ground swimming pool and can be erected at a fire scene to provide an area to store water required for firefighting which, with the lack of fire hydrants in the district, enhances our firefighting capabilities and reduces property loss due to lack of water. It allows the tender to unload its water quickly and leave to refill while the engines at the scene use the water in the dump tank until another tender can arrive to refill the tank. Engine 89 is located at the Palmer station. |
